Editor's Note: This story is part of the 2018 Inc. 5000 Europe package, an annual tally of the fastest-growing private European businesses. Here, see how HelloFresh uses big data to cater to wide-ranging customer tastes from Canada to Australia.
HelloFresh--the Berlin-based meal-kit company that's now in 10 countries--has created more than 15,000 recipes since its 2011 launch. "For each recipe," says chief product officer Stacy Gordon, "we get maybe 50,000 ratings and comments from customers." (HelloFresh had 1.45 million active customers at the end of 2017.) That feedback is used to tweak recipes, to simplify instructions for less-skilled home chefs, and to rank HelloFresh's most popular meals. Those for its top five countries are presented below. Turns out, Europeans like noodles and dumplings. Who knew?
